Jesmond is set to be full of spirit this August as seven venues from Osborne Road’s popular bar and restaurant scene put aside their friendly rivalry and unite for the very first time.
This will see the lively suburb play host to a free to attend festival for the North East’s gin lovers to enjoy.
Jesmond Gin Festival will run from Thursday 03 to Sunday 06 August 2017, bringing together over 30 brands including local and globally-recognised distilleries to offer ginthusiasts tastings and educational masterclasses, with an interactive map to complete.
Gin lovers rejoice as local brands featuring include Lakes Gin and Alnwick Gin, as well as Kokoro, Bulldog, Moray, Fair, Daffy’s, Tanqueray, Portobello, JJ Whitley, Masons and Hepple.
Led by Cairn Group, three of its Jesmond-based venues will be involved in the four-day long event, including Asian-fusion bar and restaurant Sohe, gastro bar 97 & Social and Spy Bar.
Whether you’re a gin novice or connoisseur, it’s no secret that it is the drink of the moment, whether enjoyed as a perfect serve or as the main ingredient within a tempting cocktail. To celebrate this, each of the participating bars will be offering special gin-based cocktails for festival goers to toast, as well a selection of tasty food offerings fit for the occasion.
Amongst Sohe’s mixes will be a Singapore Sling – one of the best known Asian-inspired cocktails; 97 & Social will be paying homage to The Alnwick Garden with a refreshing blend and Spy Bar will serve the classic Tom Collins.
Cocktails will be suitable for a variety of budgets with fixed price bands of £5.50, £6.50 and £7.50, with all venues adding their own style and individual twist. Other venues involved include Jam Jar, Billabong, Bar Blanc and Osbornes.
Gin fans who register in advance will be able to collect an exclusive wristband and map showing the participating bars, which visitors can get stamped at each location over the course of the festival.
For those who visit all seven bars, completed maps can be submitted via social media using the hashtag #jesmondgin, for the chance to win an exciting gin weekend break in the UK. A themed Snapchat filter will also be available at each of the bars to share your frolics with friends and followers.
Although a free event, a charity donation box will be placed at the festival’s registration stand in aid of Jesmond Trust where visitors can make voluntary donations to benefit the local community.
Jesmond Gin Festival will officially open at 4pm on Thursday 03 August, and run from 12noon each of the following days. Visitors can register online for the event now.
